New Buzzlikey

walking the halls of the old CFOB building is pretty awe inspiring. i can’t believe this place used to be buzzing with young up and comers. the last note i ever saw was just an address and a date. had alot of fun in denver this weekend with the guys in N.E.R.D. thank you for tuning in bigger and better than ever.

Well, I don't mind if it's skinny for the right reasons, you know? As much as I love the chub (I can't resist a cuddly boy, I just can't) losing a few pounds has got to be a bit healthier for him...

I hope it's nobody else's influence, that's all.

yeah, i mean i don't want to come across as a judgemental person but, all i'm going to say is, there's a difference between humble and self depreciating, and having very low self esteem and the like, and i don't know, lately i just feel like he's veered off in the direction of not liking himself a lot and willing to subject himself to stuff that's just honestly beneath him. i'm not saying i want him to get an ego, but i just really worry about the dude nowadays a lot :(

(Reply to this) (Parent)(Thread)

[info]icedmaple

I've always had the impression that Patrick's self-esteem was a little low when it came to his appearance, but like many of us, he has always made fun of himself to hide that. That's what people do - it's normal and not unhealthy. If anything, it's endearing.

Now, though, it just kind of feels that the way he was a year or two ago (and what presumably made him more comfortable and at ease in himself) doesn't have the required approval, anymore. It's as though now he's having to try to change himself to fit a certain mould, that I don't think he would so much in other circumstances.

I kind of think we both agree on what the catalyst is... And yeah, it worries me, too. I love the kid to pieces and I've seen other people make similar changes in themselves because they felt they had to or it was expected of them and it never ends well; he's amazing the way he always has been (in fact, I think he is many, maaaaaany levels hotter with some chub on), and I hate to think that he might feel he has to be something he's not.

I'm so far past trying to be something I'm not, myself, that I just wish other people would open their eyes and realise that no matter who they are, if someone doesn't love you the way you are (partners, family or friends) then it's not you they love.

[info]agent99
2008-08-30 05:32 pm UTC (link)
i couldn't have said it better myself, and yes i do think we all know the strong catalyst is in this circumstance, plus just stuff i've heard...yeah, to say the least, his self worth has taken a pretty big beating, and it does seem as if he's trying to be somebody else when in reality, who he is is just fine. i agree, "chub" or not, he's first of all not a very big guy, and i personally prefer him with a little bit of meat on his bones. i mean if i thought he was losing weight because he was eating better and wanting to be healthier, that would be one thing, but i just don't know...

i've been in those shoes before so i know exactly what it's like, a bullshitter knows a fellow bullshitter real well, you know? i just want him to figure this out, that honestly he's a good person who honestly deserves better personally than he's accepted for himself. i know in that business it's got to be hard to find someone who'll honestly love YOU and not the you they think you are or the you they expect you to be, but they exist and he deserves that.

I think that people who don't expect much for themselves are often easily swayed by what they think is out of their league; there's a lot of scope for, "I don't deserve this, so I've no right to complain that it isn't perfect".

The thing is, he has so much going for him, if only he'd see it. I can name a number of perfectly sane, genuine people who would fall over themselves to help show him that, even if he was the guy working in their local HMV, you know? You get the impression that he thinks everyone is after the Patrick without the 'h', so he avoids the people who know him like that and then winds up in Hollywood, with all the people who couldn't care less about the band; where people only care what your name is if it's up in lights.

yeah, it's a bad rut to be in dude, i can speak from experience. you really convince yourself at some point that if anyone wants you at all? you're lucky and you should just suck it up and "take" it, that you won't find anyone better, blah blah...it's why i've been alone for a while, because i'm trying my best to break myself of it, you figure out a lot about yourself and get stronger when you're on your own. clears your eyes up.

exactly, dude i can add folks to that list too, if he was some dude working at blockbuster, he would still be him, and who he is as a person is a really sweet, funny, intelligent, unique spirit who honestly deserves better than this. and i agree, they may think they can't find anyone who'll like them for who they really are, but you won't find what you're looking for in hollywood either. because, you know, are they going to be around when you're not on the cover of magazines and on mtv and stuff anymore? doubt it.

Will they be around when he moves back to Chicago and out of the light from the pap's camera flashes? I doubt that, too.

More than anything, I want this kid to be happy beyond words and for the long term; which is why all this bothers me. I don't believe he actually can be right now, and I'm not confident that he will be in the future, either.

After everything we know about the last few years, I'd hate to see him make the wrong choices and miss out on more positive opportunities elsewhere (or be pressured into making decisions that make him unhappy).

(And it's good that you've recognised similar things in yourself and are dealing with them; so many people underrate themselves horrendously, when they really don't deserve to give themselves such a hard time. I was much the same for years - and it is so liberating to reach that point of, "You know what? If people don't like it, they can fuck off." We're always preaching about tolerance and acceptance of everything from race to creed to ability, but no one ever bothers to think that those little details need to be accepted, too. Love yourself and someone else, sure, but let them love themselves, too.)

it sometimes makes me feel like he at some point came to this conclusion that in order to be happy in one manner, he'd have to sacrefice his happiness in another, and honestly? you don't have to do that. you can still be a sucessful musician and have a happy personal life, but you have to make the choice to put yourself first and not accept anyone who'll be harmful to you in any way. im usually not too judgemental, and i know nobody's going to listen to what some chick on the internet thinks, and logically i know this all comes across as just overbearing fangirl babblings but honestly? i just want the dude to be happy in every way. he deserves that. once the mania of this dies down, which almost in every case it does, i don't want him to regret not putting his well being first and being left too broken hearted. i don't know, maybe i am an overprotective fangirl when it comes to him, but...so what. i want him to be happy.

(thank you. and i could not have said that better myself dude, seriously. i'm no spring chicken, it took me a little while to get to this point, i'm not a teenager im in my middle 20s and it was rough but i'm glad i've gotten to this point)

I think when it comes to Patrick, we're all over-protective fangirls; but I think with good reason. Most of us seem to have a weird balance fangirl crush and older-sister adoration for the kid, and nobody wants to see him fleeced and hurt all over again.

For so many people to feel exactly the same about this, and have the exact same concerns, it'd be weird, for me, if there wasn't something in it.

(No worries. I'm 26 in a couple of months myself and I reckon I've overcome a lot of what I used to have to deal with; I have certain rules that I live by now, and in part it was the first time I saw Cobra Starship that it really fell into place. Life isn't to be taken seriously, and we shouldn't take ourselves seriously, either. If we do that, we're always too afraid of being ourselves and what other people will make of it. The only person who can judge you with any validity, is you - and regrets are just torturing yourself over what you can't change. Screw it. Living in the moment doesn't have to mean bungee jumping or any of that rubbish. We can all have that - but the first thing you have to do is go watch a lanky, hispanic Jew prance around in neon! Haha. If Gabe Saporta formed a church the world would be a much happier, more awesome place.)

Going to apologize for how short this comment is, we had to haul ass from a hurricane and we just got back in and I'm le pooped, but it's true. we're all pretty protective over the guy. it's a smidge fangirl and a chunk of just generally being protective over a dude we think is a solid human being, who deserves better.

it's comforting to know that a. i'm not the oldest person around here and b. that yeah, we do get better and do clear our brains at some point, and c. i'm not the only person who's been influenced by a dude in a band even at my age haha, but that's another story for another time where i'm not braindead.

Holy shit - I'm glad you guys didn't get hit as badly as anticipated and I hope what damage there is isn't too bad.

My housemate and I cheered when we saw that the storm largely missed New Orleans; it must be really bloody awful to have to go through all that once, let alone twice.

Take care, dude.

Yup. See, I don't live in the new orleans area I live on the other end of the state, but right after katrina came rita and that messed us up pretty bad anyway, so we're kind of in the same boat as the folks in new orleans, when we see a storm coming we get the heck out now, it messed up baton rouge really bad but otherwise it kind of didn't do as much damage as we thought it would, so to say the least we're relieved. thank you dude, seriously, i don't think they need anymore problems over there, there's still places that are messed up and people living in fema trailers so you know :\

trying to dude, just exhausted now. it sucks having to drive 9 hours away to find anywhere to stay and be safe and then you gotta do it again and come right back to work the next day :| lmfao
